About me

As a nurse, Midwife and Teacher, I have an understanding of the impact that your own traumatic experiences may have had on you. I can walk beside you as you journey through and reach the place where you feel that personal freedom, success, joy and internal peace can be part of the life you most want for yourself.

My story

I began my nursing career in South Africa in 1983 and once qualified I progressed into Midwifery and then in 1988 moved into Intensive care where I spent 30 years before moving to Ireland, where I currently live. At present I teach on a pre-nursing course in a Further Education college outside Dublin teaching and mentoring young adults.

During my time as a nurse, I listened with compassion to so many elements of personal and family tragedy and heartbreak. I have sat with patients while they have shared their stories, their triumphs, failures and challenges. We have shared with laughter and tears how they have dealt with illness, life-changing diagnosis and personal loss, and I’ve had the honor of being empathetic to patients as they journey through their unique experiences.

I have become aware of the difference between individuals that seem to cope and deal with trauma and adversity and others that don’t. My exploration and curiosity into childhood adversity, toxic stress and C-PTSD led me to explore my own experiences and childhood trauma. This internal exploration is an ongoing journey, it led me into therapy, encouraged me to participate in workshops, learning, reading and studying. Through these experiences and the pain that internal work brings, I know now that you can experience change, you can feel differently about yourself, but more importantly your past does not need to define who you can become.
